DaysofPal- As Israel’s assault on Gaza intensifies, the humanitarian crisis has reached catastrophic levels. Despite global calls for a ceasefire, the relentless attacks continue, leaving civilians trapped in rubble, hospitals overwhelmed, and entire neighborhoods wiped out. Palestinians are facing not only bombs but also displacement, hunger, and the loss of their homes at a scale unseen before.
Entire Neighborhoods Reduced to Rubble
The Palestinian Civil Defense confirmed that over 1,000 buildings in Gaza City’s Zeitoun and Sabra neighborhoods have been completely destroyed since Israel launched its invasion on August 6. Hundreds remain buried beneath the ruins, with ongoing shelling and blocked roads preventing rescue operations and the delivery of aid.
“There are grave concerns about the continued incursion while crews lack the capacity to handle the scale of destruction,” the Civil Defense warned. “No part of Gaza is safe, neither the north nor the south as homes, shelters, and even displacement camps are under fire.”
Israeli tanks have advanced into the Sabra neighborhood as part of what many fear is a plan to level Gaza City, similar to the destruction of Rafah, in what rights groups warn could be an attempt to permanently remove Palestinians from their land.
Rising Death Toll and Starvation Crisis
On Sunday, 51 Palestinians were killed across the Strip, including 27 in Gaza City and 24 people waiting for food aid. Three more, including a child, were killed when a residential building on al-Jalaa Street was bombed.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported eight additional deaths from hunger, bringing the total number of starvation-related deaths to 289 since the war began, including 115 children. Families in the north report constant shelling, drone fire, and explosions echoing through their neighborhoods, turning the search for food into a deadly gamble.
“Impossible to Stay Alive”
Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, described famine as the “final calamity” for Gaza’s population, saying the world was witnessing “hell in all its forms.” He denounced Israel’s refusal to allow unrestricted aid or foreign journalists into the Strip, calling the denial of suffering “the most obscene expression of dehumanization.”
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Ministry of Interior urged people not to abandon their homes under Israeli threats, warning that there are no truly safe zones. Even tents sheltering displaced families have been bombed, leaving residents to choose between staying under fire or risking death on the road while fleeing.
Calls for Accountability Amid Warnings of Genocide
Families escaping Gaza City described drone attacks firing on anything that moved. Some managed to flee under fire, while others were trapped inside besieged neighborhoods. Leading rights groups and UN experts now warn openly of genocide as Israel’s campaign shows no sign of ending.
With international pressure failing to halt the assault, Palestinians endure hunger, displacement, and mass killings as the world watches. The silence surrounding their suffering raises urgent questions about justice, humanity, and the cost of ignoring these crimes.
