The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club stated Sunday, August 6, 2023, that five Palestinian detainees will continue their open hunger strike inside the Israeli occupation prisons, in rejection of their administrative detention.
The Club stated in a press statement today that four Palestinian prisoners have been on a hunger strike for 8 days namely: Saif Qassem Hamdan, Osama Maher Khalil, Qusay Jamal Khader, and Saleh Raafat Rabaya, in addition to the detainee Kayed Al-Fasfous, who has been on hunger strike for four days.
Israel’s illegal policy of administrative detention is a pre-emptive measure that allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for lengthy periods of time based on disclosed allegations that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
Israeli occupation is currently holding more than 1,000 Palestinian detainees without charge or trial, the highest number since 2003, according to the Israeli human rights group HaMoked.
