DaysofPal— The European Union has confirmed that Israeli occupation continues its policy of displacing Palestinian residents from their homes in occupied East Jerusalem, warning of worsening humanitarian conditions in the area.
In a statement issued on Friday in coordination with EU Heads of Mission in Jerusalem and Ramallah, the Office of the European Union Representative said that the situation for Palestinians in East Jerusalem remains dire.
It highlighted a particularly alarming Israeli escalation in forced evictions and demolitions in the town of Silwan.
According to the statement, more than 50 families, representing approximately 300 people, have been displaced from their homes over the past 18 months in the Batn al-Hawa area and the al-Bustan neighborhood.
The EU also noted that around 200 homes in these areas alone are currently at risk of imminent eviction or demolition.
The European Union reiterated its strong opposition to Israeli settlement policies and activities, including those in and around Jerusalem, stating that they are illegal under international law.
It stressed that Israeli domestic laws do not exempt the country from its obligations to administer occupied territories in a way that ensures the protection of the local population.
The statement further warned that unilateral measures such as forced transfers, evictions, demolitions, and property confiscations will only escalate already heightened tensions and increase human suffering.
The European Union called on the Israeli occupation to immediately halt these practices and fully comply with its obligations under international law.
