DaysofPal- The Palestinian Civil Society Organizations Network (PNGO) issued a dire warning about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, over a month and a half after the complete closure of crossings and denial of humanitarian aid.
The network described the unfolding crisis as one of the most severe in modern history, with famine, disease, and displacement ravaging the population.
Famine and Malnutrition Spread Across Gaza
The PNGO confirmed that famine is rapidly spreading across the Strip, with skyrocketing cases of malnutrition among vulnerable groups, particularly children and women. The lack of essential food items and nutritional supplements for children and the sick has left thousands on the brink of starvation. The network emphasized that this man-made crisis is a direct result of the Israeli blockade and denial of aid, which has pushed the population into unprecedented levels of deprivation.
Health System on the Brink of Collapse
The health system in Gaza is deteriorating at an alarming rate, overwhelmed by the direct targeting of medical facilities, the depletion of medicines, and the exhaustion of critical supplies, including those needed for chronic diseases. Thousands of wounded and sick individuals are now at risk of losing their lives due to the inability of hospitals to provide even basic care.
Compounding the crisis is the lack of clean water for drinking and sanitation, leading to widespread contamination and the proliferation of sewage.
Over 600,000 tons of waste remain uncollected throughout the Strip, creating hazardous living conditions amid a severe shortage of cleaning materials and hygiene supplies.
Mass Displacement and Dire Living Conditions
The PNGO highlighted that more than 90% of Gaza’s population has been forcibly displaced, with two-thirds of the territory evacuated under Israeli military orders.
Families are enduring unimaginable hardship, lacking access to basic shelter supplies such as tents, blankets, clothing, and other necessities. Women and children, already the most vulnerable, are bearing the brunt of these inhumane conditions.
Systematic Destruction and Erasure
The network accused Israeli occupation of perpetrating some of the most heinous forms of aggression against Gaza, including relentless bombardments, deliberate targeting of civilians, and the systematic destruction of infrastructure. Entire families have been erased from the civil registry, victims of what the PNGO describes as genocidal policies aimed at eradicating Palestinian life and culture.
Militarization of Aid: A Dangerous Precedent
The PNGO condemned Israeli practices to control and militarize the distribution of humanitarian aid, describing it as a blatant violation of international conventions and humanitarian principles. Such actions not only obstruct the delivery of lifesaving assistance but also weaponize aid to further subjugate the population. The network welcomed statements by the UN Secretary-General rejecting any aid mechanisms imposed by Israeli occupation forces, urging adherence to neutral and impartial humanitarian principles.
Call for Immediate International Action
In light of the worsening catastrophe, the PNGO called for urgent international intervention to halt Israeli genocide, lift the blockade, and ensure the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. The network demanded accountability for the occupation’s crimes, including an immediate halt to arms supplies to the Israeli occupation, and urged global actors to pressure Israeli occupation to reopen crossings and allow aid to reach those in desperate need through Palestinian and international institutions.
Children: The Most Vulnerable Victims
The PNGO underscored that Gaza’s children are among the most targeted by the occupation, constituting the largest number of victims and suffering disproportionately from the escalating humanitarian disaster. From malnutrition to psychological trauma, the youngest generation faces a future marred by loss and deprivation, underscoring the moral imperative for global action.
Breaking the Silence
The network expressed deep concern over the continued international silence regarding Israeli genocidal policies, which include mass killings, destruction, and an unprecedented siege. It called on all nations and organizations to reject Israeli plans to control aid distribution and work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s people.
As the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza reaches new depths, the PNGO’s warnings serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for solidarity, justice, and decisive action to prevent further loss of life and preserve the dignity of millions trapped in this man-made tragedy.
