DaysofPal- Palestinian civil society organizations accused Israel of defying the International Court of Justice (ICJ) order requiring it to allow the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip.
Amjad al-Shawa, Director of the Palestinian NGOs Network (PNGO), said on Friday that the Israeli occupation “continues to tighten its blockade on Gaza despite the severe suffering of its residents,” describing its actions as a clear challenge to international law and the ICJ’s binding decision.
Al-Shawa explained that what enters the Strip “does not exceed small quantities of nutritional supplements,” stressing that the occupation prevents the entry of essential medicines, medical equipment, and hygiene materials needed to address the growing humanitarian crisis.
On Thursday, the International Court of Justice reaffirmed that the Israeli occupation, as an occupying power, is legally obligated to ensure the fulfillment of the basic needs of the Palestinian civilian population, including food, shelter, and medical services.
The ICJ also emphasized the need to allow and facilitate United Nations-led relief efforts, particularly those carried out by UNRWA and other humanitarian agencies operating in Gaza.
The ICJ ruling underlined that the Israeli occupation must guarantee unhindered access for humanitarian aid and uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law to protect and support Gaza’s 2.4 million residents, who continue to endure catastrophic conditions under the prolonged blockade.
