DaysofPal– An international petition launched by a group of doctors, healthcare workers, and global medical organizations is calling for the suspension of the Israeli Medical Association from the World Medical Association, citing alleged violations of medical ethics and human rights.
The initiative comes ahead of the World Medical Association’s General Assembly, scheduled to take place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, from October 7 to 10, 2026. Signatories are urging the organization and its member associations to take action against the Israeli Medical Association, arguing that it has failed to uphold fundamental principles of medical ethics and international humanitarian law.
According to the petition, the call for suspension is based on reports and testimonies from Palestinian healthcare workers, human rights organizations, and academic research.
These sources document alleged targeting of healthcare facilities, ambulances, and medical personnel, as well as obstruction of medical and humanitarian aid to Palestinians. The petition also cites claims of torture and mistreatment of Palestinian detainees.
The signatories have called on national medical associations within the World Medical Association to sever institutional ties with the Israeli Medical Association and push for its suspension.
They also warned that failure to take concrete steps during the Rotterdam meeting could lead to a boycott of the World Medical Association and the withholding of membership fees starting in 2027.
In addition, the petition calls for independent investigations into alleged violations of medical ethics and international humanitarian law, and for disciplinary measures against any national medical associations found to be complicit.
The petition has been signed by prominent doctors and academics from multiple countries, along with international health organizations. As of June 16, 2026, it had gathered 1,649 signatures, with an initial goal of reaching 2,000.
