DaysofPal- The scale of the atrocities Israel is committing in the northern Gaza Strip, as it seeks to forcibly remove the remaining residents, is beyond words, said the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem in a statement published on Tuesday.
This is not only due to the unimaginable suffering of hundreds of thousands facing starvation, disease without medical care, and relentless bombings and gunfire, but also because Israel has isolated them from the outside world.
“Ever since Israel’s current operation in the northern Gaza Strip began on 5 October, the area has been under a near complete siege, relentlessly pummeled by the military,” the statement reads.
The rights group warned that Israel is taking advantage of the world’s diverted focus to permanently alter the situation on the ground by blocking humanitarian aid and emergency teams from entering.
In the statement issued amid Israel’s relentless onslaught on the Gaza Strip, B’Tselem stated that approximately 50,000 individuals have been displaced from their homes since the onset of the offensive. The three hospitals still functioning in northern Gaza are nearing collapse and are at risk of being targeted.
It criticized the international community for its complete inability to halt the indiscriminate attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip.
“Now, when it is clearer than ever that Israel intends to forcibly displace northern Gaza’s residents by committing some of the gravest crimes under the laws of war, the world’s nations must take action,” it said.
The statement urged the international community to employ “political, legal, and economic” measures to put an end to the mass killings and the siege of northern Gaza.
In Gaza, at least 42,847 people have been killed and 100,544 wounded in Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023.
