Belgian Liège City Boycotts Israeli Occupation

Belgian Liège City Boycotts Israeli Occupation
M.S | DOP -

The councilof the Belgian city of Liège decided Thursday, April 27, 2023, to boycott the Israeli occupation due to its repeated violations against the Palestinian people.

The council voted last Tuesday on a decision to stop dealing with “Israel” and all its institutions, and to refuse to deal with any institution associated with Israeli settlements or has relation with the Israeli occupation.

The decision submitted by the Belgian Labor Party group won the majority of the members of the municipal council and was supported by the Belgian Socialist Party group, the Green Party, and the representative of the “Vega” movement.

Translation: The council of the city of Liege in eastern Belgium adopted the motion calling for a boycott of the #Israeli occupation.

The decision was due to the laws of the Belgian and European Union that reject all Israeli violations against human rights norms and standards and obligations to the European human rights system, which are also against international law and the UN resolutions, most of which is Resolution No. (242) that bans the forcible seizure of others’ lands and calls for Israeli withdrawal from Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Security Council Resolution No. (2334) also considers the establishment of Israeli settlements against the rules of international law that threatens the principle of establishing a Palestinian state, within the framework of a just and lasting peace.

The Belgian decision confirms Belgian’s support for the Palestinian people who are still under Israeli occupation and suffer from Israeli crimes and the apartheid regime, and it stressed its support to the BDS as well.
