Days of Palestine – Jerusalem

Last May, the occupied city of Jerusalem witnessed flaming events that spread to include most of the city’s neighborhoods. It started in Bab al-Amoud Square and moved to Sheikh Jarrah and then turned into an uprising to protect Al-Aqsa and thwart the settlers’ incursions.

On 16-05, the young man Shaher Abu Khadija, from the town of Kafr Aqab, was martyred in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

Zuhdi al-Taweel (17 years), from the town of Kafr Aqab, was also killed in Sheikh Jarrah on (24-5).

According to what was monitored by the Wadi Hilweh Information Center – Jerusalem, 677 Jerusalemites were arrested during the month of May, including 116 minors, including about 20 cases of arrest for children aged 13-14 years, in addition to 32 females, including 8 minors.

The center added that among the detainees were 6 school students, who were arrested while on their way to their schools or after the end of their school day on the way back to their homes.

As part of the policy of collective punishment against the released prisoners, the Israeli occupation authorities cut off the right to “national health insurance” for 19 Palestinians and their families, including 3 prisoners in prison and the wife of a Palestinian prisoner, and the rest are from the ex-prisoners.

Last May, the Israeli occupation authorities transferred 11 Palestinians to administrative detention by a decision of the Israeli Minister of War, for a period ranging between 3-6 months, including prisoners whose health insurance was cut off.

During the month of May, the Israeli occupation authorities issued more than 270 deportation decisions, including deportation from “Al-Aqsa / Jerusalem / Old City / and preventing entry to the West Bank / Bab al-Amoud area and the adjacent streets,” for varying periods between one week and up to 6 months. After hours of investigation in the various centers, especially in the Qishla center in Old Jerusalem and the center of Salah El-Din Street.

The Israeli occupation authorities expelled dozens of young men and girls who were arrested from the Sheikh Jarrah area from the neighborhood, and also deported a number of young men from their areas of residence, “At-Tur, Isawiya, and Jabal Mukaber.”

Over the course of last May, the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood witnessed a daily presence and sit-in, rejecting the eviction decisions that threaten dozens of residents and closing its entrances with barriers and barriers, then placing concrete cubes, and preventing entry only to the residents of the neighborhood.

During the past month, hundreds of injuries were recorded among Palestinians, and according to the various medical teams, especially the Palestinian Red Crescent – which issued daily data on injuries in Jerusalem – more than 1,000 injuries were recorded, half of which were transferred to hospitals for treatment, many of which were described as serious, and the injuries were concentrated in the face. , head, and chest.

On the seventh and tenth of May, the highest injuries were recorded, as more than 600 injuries were recorded.

The Christian celebrations of Easter were not spared the Israeli attacks, as the monks and a number of young men were beaten and pushed during the Holy Saturday march in the Old City, as they tried to reach the Church of the Holy Sepulcher to participate in religious rites and celebrations for the holiday.
