The Republic of Kosovo on Monday signed an official agreement to normalize relations with the Israeli occupation, during a virtual official ceremony, with the participation of the Israeli occupation's foreign minister, Gabi Ashkenazi, and his counterpart in Kosovo, Melisa Haradinaj Stubla.
The agreement, which was attended by the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Matthew Palmer, included a memorandum to establish diplomatic relations, and two notes on political consultation and economic cooperation.
"We are making history by signing an agreement to establish diplomatic relations between Israel and Kosovo," said Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi in a speech, extending his thanks to the United States of America for the role it plays in promoting the peace process.
Ashkenazi confirmed that he agreed to "the official request of Kosovo to open an embassy in Jerusalem."
For her part, Kosovo's foreign minister described the signing of the agreement as a "historic day," noting that the agreement "would not have been possible without the American role."
In September 2020, ex-US President Donald Trump announced that Kosovo and "Israel" had agreed to normalize relations between them and that Serbia had pledged to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem.
