DaysofPal – Two Palestinians were killed by Israeli occupation forces on Monday during a settler attack on the town of Deir Jarir, east of Ramallah, in the central occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The ministry identified the victims as Odeh Abdul Rahim Odeh Farakhneh, 53, and Ahmed Adel Rashid Abu Mukh, 26, who were shot dead by Israeli forces in the town.
Three other Palestinians sustained serious injuries during the assault.
According to local sources, a group of Israeli settlers attacked Deir Jarir while under the protection of Israeli forces. The settlers reportedly assaulted residents, triggering violent confrontations in the area.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its crews initially treated a critically injured man who suffered a severe abdominal wound after being attacked by settlers. He was transferred to a hospital by an ambulance from the nearby town of Silwad.
Later, the society reported treating two additional critically injured Palestinians, including a 55-year-old man who went into cardiac arrest. Medical teams performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while transporting him to the hospital due to the severity of his condition.
Local sources also reported that Israeli forces opened fire on an ambulance carrying one of the injured to the hospital.
The attack on Deir Jarir comes amid an increase in settler violence across the Ramallah and al-Bireh governorates. Residents have faced repeated assaults involving physical attacks, live ammunition, arson, and damage to agricultural land, with Palestinian officials accusing Israeli forces of protecting the settlers.
In a separate incident, the Palestinian news agency quoted Hazem Ghneimat, mayor of the town of Surif near Hebron, as saying that armed settlers carrying clubs and batons attacked residents in the Khillet Ghneim area. An elderly Palestinian sustained head injuries after being beaten with sticks and batons.
Since October 2023, violence by Israeli occupation forces and settlers across the occupied West Bank has intensified sharply. According to official Palestinian figures released through July 7, at least 1,181 Palestinians have been killed, around 13,000 injured, and nearly 24,000 arrested.
