DaysofPal – Israeli occupation forces released seven Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip on Monday after they had spent varying periods in Israeli detention.
Teams from the International Committee of the Red Cross reportedly accompanied the freed detainees when they arrived at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza.
The freed detainees include 28-year-old Aed Ahmed Mahmoud Abu Rida from Jabalia, who was detained inside Israel and held in Salamon Prison for 57 days; 37-year-old Ali Adel Ali al-Kurd from Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, who was arrested east of Deir al-Balah and spent six months in the Sde Teiman detention facility; 19-year-old Tareq Mahmoud Mahmoud Abu Rida from Jabalia, who was detained inside Israel and held in Gilboa Prison for 72 days; 33-year-old Mahmoud Amin Hussein Abu Seido from Gaza City’s al-Rimal neighborhood, who spent six months in Salamon Prison after being detained inside Israel; 62-year-old Ismail Mustafa Abdullah al-Zaidi from Jabalia, who was held in Hadarim Prison for 40 days; 26-year-old Aed Raed Shnoun Jarad from Jabalia, who spent 60 days in Salamon Prison after being detained inside Israel; and 34-year-old Fadi Mustafa Ahmed Raihan from Jabalia, who was arrested in Tulkarm and held in Gilboa Prison for 60 days.
Israeli occupation forces continue to release small numbers of detainees from Gaza at irregular intervals. Many of those freed return to the Strip in poor health, with Palestinian organizations saying they suffer from the effects of inadequate medical care, malnutrition, and alleged torture and abuse during their detention.
Over 9,400 Palestinians are presently detained in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society. The total includes approximately 1,250 detainees from the Gaza Strip classified by Israel as “unlawful combatants,” in addition to 99 women and around 350 children.
