DaysofPal- The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) has released catastrophic indicators of the humanitarian and demographic situation in the Palestinian territories, warning of the far-reaching consequences of the war on Gaza.
In a new report, the bureau said approximately 60,000 children in the Gaza Strip have lost one or both parents as a result of the war, while displacement, widespread destruction, and deteriorating living conditions continue across the territory.
The report estimated the global Palestinian population at around 15.5 million people, with more than 8 million living outside historic Palestine. The remainder reside in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, inside the Green Line, and in the Gaza Strip.
Shocking Human and Material Toll
The report states that the Israeli genocide in Gaza over the two years has resulted in the deaths of over 73,000 people, including some 33,000 children and women. It also said more than 11,000 people remain missing, with their fate still unknown.
The bureau warned that more than 100,000 children under the age of five and approximately 55,000 pregnant women are at risk of malnutrition and famine, raising concerns about long-term humanitarian consequences, particularly for children who have lost a parent or their primary caregiver.
The report added that more than two million Palestinians have been displaced within the Gaza Strip, while more than 40,000 people have been displaced from refugee camps in the northern occupied West Bank.
In the agricultural sector, the bureau said only about 1.5 percent of Gaza’s farmland has escaped bulldozing and destruction, while the remaining agricultural land has largely lost its productive capacity.
It also reported the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system, noting that roughly half of the territory’s hospitals are no longer functioning. Only 18 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals remain partially operational, while nearly 200,000 buildings have been damaged or destroyed by the bombardment.
The bureau said the war has caused extensive destruction to Gaza’s infrastructure, with around 198,000 buildings affected.
Separately, UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said humanitarian operations in Gaza continue to face major obstacles due to insecurity, Israeli restrictions on the delivery of aid, and funding shortages.
He said United Nations humanitarian partners were able to provide emergency assistance to more than 970 families affected by 11 separate incidents across the Gaza Strip during the past week.
Dujarric also renewed the UN’s call for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Warnings of Long-Term Demographic Consequences
Commenting on the report, political researcher Ahmed Al-Tanani said the figures demonstrate that the impact of the war extends far beyond immediate casualties and has fundamentally affected the demographic and social fabric of Palestinian society.
Al-Tanani stated in an interview with Al Araby TV from Gaza that the “genocidal act goes beyond direct military action to target the entire demographic structure,” contending that the circumstances in Gaza are intended to eliminate the Palestinian population.
He described the loss of one or both parents by approximately 60,000 children as “a catastrophe in the fullest sense,” noting that thousands of children are growing up amid displacement while being deprived of education, stability, and family care under extremely difficult humanitarian conditions.
Al-Tanani added that any meaningful recovery must begin with a lasting ceasefire, followed by comprehensive reconstruction efforts and sustained psychological and educational support. He warned that the continuation of current conditions threatens the future of an entire generation of children in Gaza.
The report comes as Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza continues, while the United Nations and humanitarian organizations repeatedly warn of worsening humanitarian conditions due to ongoing restrictions on aid deliveries and the deepening food and medical shortages across the territory.
