DayofPal—The family of Palestinian aid truck driver Ahmed Islim has accused Israeli forces of carrying out a deliberate “execution” after he was fatally shot while transporting humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, according to Haaretz.
Ahmed’s father said his son had complied with Israeli soldiers’ orders when he was killed last Wednesday.
Recounting what he was told, the father said an Israeli soldier approached Ahmed and asked, “What are you doing? Put your hands up. Show me your stomach,” before shooting him between the eyes without further warning.
The family further added that Israeli forces prevented an ambulance from reaching Ahmed after he was shot, leaving him to bleed to death.
Ahmed Islim was part of a humanitarian aid convoy delivering supplies for the World Food Programme (WFP) and World Central Kitchen (WCK).
Salim drove for a four-truck convoy carrying food aid coordinated with the World Central Kitchen (WCK) along the Philadelphi Corridor in southern Gaza Strip.
The trucks stopped after one vehicle suffered a mechanical breakdown.
surviving drivers were threatened at the scene, leading to localized resignations and threats of suspending aid movements through the crossing.
Members of the convoy said soldiers ordered the drivers to exit their trucks, raise their hands, and undergo searches before Ahmed was shot at close range.
30-year-old Ahmed was transporting food aid intended for civilians in the Gaza Strip. He is survived by a young daughter and an infant.
