DaysofPal- French law firm ADAS Avocats, based in the city of Lyon, announced that its client, journalist and researcher Majed Al-Zeer, has initiated legal proceedings to challenge a decision by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to place him on the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) sanctions list.
In a statement, the law firm said it had been pursuing the appeal process on behalf of Al-Zeer since the sanctions decision was issued. As part of its efforts to protect its client’s rights and preserve his reputation, ADAS Avocats submitted a formal request for reconsideration to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which operates under the U.S. Treasury Department. The request seeks the removal of Al-Zeer’s name from the sanctions list in accordance with applicable U.S. legal procedures.
The firm explained that it has engaged in several rounds of legal correspondence and exchanges with relevant officials at the U.S. Treasury Department, during which it conveyed its client’s objections to the designation and outlined the reasons for contesting the decision.
According to his lawyers, Al-Zeer maintains that the U.S. sanctions designation is unjustified and unwarranted. He argues that the decision is not supported by reliable evidence or sufficient legal grounds to justify its imposition.
Majed Al-Zeer is a journalist, writer, lecturer, author, and activist specializing in Palestinian affairs, with a particular focus on the issue of Palestinian refugees and the right of return.
Over the years, he has helped establish numerous Palestinian grassroots organizations around the world and has actively participated in dozens of international conferences, seminars, discussion forums, and workshops addressing issues related to the Palestinian cause.
Al-Zeer currently serves as president of the European Palestinian Council for Political Relations (EUPAC) and has also been the president of the Palestinians in Europe Conference since January 1, 2026.
