DaysofPal— Oxfam International has accused the Israeli occupation of using restrictions on humanitarian aid as part of a policy of “collective punishment” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, urging immediate action from the United Nations Security Council.
Bushra Khalidi, Oxfam’s Global Humanitarian Policy Lead, made the remarks during a Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East, where the Palestinian issue was under discussion.
In her address, Khalidi said Israeli occupation continues to prevent the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, including by obstructing the work of international organizations and United Nations agencies.
She described these actions as part of a broader pattern of collective punishment imposed on Palestinians.
Khalidi also accused the Israeli occupation of continuing military operations that have resulted in civilian casualties while confining Gaza’s population to an increasingly restricted area under Israeli blockade.
She called on the Security Council to take immediate and decisive action, stressing that accountability must not be delayed by prolonged political negotiations.
“History will not remember how many reports were written or how many meetings were held on Gaza,” Khalidi told council members.
“It will remember whether this body acted swiftly, courageously, and humanely at a time when lives were being destroyed before the eyes of the world,” Khalidi added.
Oxfam urged the international community to ensure unimpeded access for humanitarian aid, protect civilians, and uphold international law amid the ongoing crisis.
The remarks come as humanitarian conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate, with aid agencies warning of severe shortages of food, medicine, and essential supplies affecting hundreds of thousands of civilians.
