DaysofPal- Mahmoud Mardawi, a senior Hamas official, praised the residents of the towns of Turmus Ayya and Sa’ir for confronting attacks by Israeli settlers, while also commending the national stance demonstrated by residents of Khillet al-Hums, south of Hebron, who performed Friday prayers on land threatened with confiscation as an affirmation of their attachment to their land and rejection of settlement and displacement plans.
In a statement, Mardawi said that the broad public presence in targeted areas and the resistance to settler attacks reflect a deeply rooted Palestinian determination to defend land and rights. He added that these actions send a clear message that Israeli plans and settler violence will not succeed in uprooting the Palestinian people from their land.
Mardawi further stated that the growing spirit of resistance and defiance among Palestinians living in areas threatened by settlement expansion constitutes a key factor in confronting annexation and settlement projects. He stressed that steadfastness and maintaining a presence on the land remain the most effective means of thwarting such plans.
He called for expanding popular participation in field activities across targeted areas, strengthening local protection committees, and providing support to residents, farmers, and landowners. He also urged backing for various forms of resistance and confrontation against ongoing attacks.
Mardawi emphasized that Israel’s settlement agenda and its adoption of expansionist policies would bring it nothing but failure and disappointment. He maintained that these measures would not overcome the will of the Palestinian people despite the escalation of attacks and the sacrifices being made.
On the ground, several Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation on Friday after Israeli forces dispersed an anti-settlement protest organized in response to the seizure of land on Jabal Tarousa, west of the town of Dura. The demonstration was held to protest the confiscation of the area and the start of construction work for a new settlement at the site.
