UN: Nearly 1,000 Palestinians Killed in Gaza Since Ceasefire

DaysofPal- The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, issued a stark warning on Monday regarding the catastrophic deterioration of humanitarian and human rights conditions across the Occupied Palestinian Territories. In a comprehensive address before the UN Human Rights Council, Türk revealed that Israeli forces have killed nearly 1,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the formal declaration of a ceasefire in October 2025, underscoring the extreme fragility and systemic violations of the active truce.

Addressing the council, the UN rights chief emphasized that Palestinians in Gaza are systematically being forced into ever-shrinking, uninhabitable spaces. This geographic suffocation is compounded by severe, unlawful restrictions imposed on the entry of life-saving humanitarian assistance.

Türk fiercely condemned recent rhetoric from various Israeli officials regarding the displacement or “removal” of Palestinians from Gaza, as well as statements aimed at permanently dismantling any prospect of a viable Palestinian state. “Such declarations,” Türk asserted, “are absolutely illegal under international law.”

The High Commissioner’s report extended beyond Gaza, drawing urgent attention to an accelerating crisis in the occupied West Bank. Türk noted that Israeli occupation forces alongside Israeli settlers are rapidly escalating the destruction of Palestinian communities and the unlawful seizure of territory.

According to UN documentation, at least 57 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the beginning of 2026, while approximately 1,300 others have sustained injuries. The vast majority of these casualties resulted from direct settler violence and aggression.

Alongside physical attacks, Israeli authorities have issued 23 separate land-seizure orders, systematically expropriating large areas of Palestinian property, and hundreds of Palestinians have been arbitrarily detained.

In a concurrent report released by the Government Media Office in Gaza, local authorities provided exhaustive statistical backing to the High Commissioner’s warnings. The media office officially documented 3,269 separate violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces since the ceasefire agreement took effect in October 2025.

The local administration detailed that these persistent infractions resulted in the direct target-killing of 992 individuals and injuries to 3,144 others during what was intended to be a period of de-escalation. Additionally, 95 cases of arbitrary arrest and detention were recorded during the active truce period.

A critical component of the ongoing crisis lies in the deliberate obstruction of agreed-upon humanitarian relief. The Government Media Office stated that Israel has fundamentally reneged on the humanitarian clauses stipulated in the October 2025 agreement.

Out of 147,000 humanitarian aid trucks originally scheduled and mandated to enter the starved enclave to alleviate the famine-like conditions, Israeli authorities permitted the entry of only 52,740 vehicles. This represents a compliance rate of a mere 36 percent, leaving nearly two-thirds of the required survival supplies blocked entirely from entering the Gaza Strip.
