DaysofPal- The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Palestinian territories has warned that ongoing Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip have created a devastating reality for civilians, despite a ceasefire agreement reached seven months ago.
In a televised interview, UN spokesperson Mai Al-Sheikh described the situation as alarming, revealing a frightening toll of continued Israeli war since the ceasefire came into effect in October last year.
According to the UN office, more than 880 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the truce began.
Al-Sheikh stressed that Israeli war crimes have not ceased, accusing the Israeli occupation of using the ceasefire as a cover for continued military operations.
She noted that recent attacks have resulted in the deaths of at least 180 civilians, many of whom were reportedly targeted in tents and public spaces through airstrikes and naval bombardment.
The UN has also documented ongoing aerial assaults, including the use of drones, as well as missile and sea-based attacks.
Al-Sheikh warned of a deepening humanitarian crisis, highlighting a near-total paralysis in reconstruction efforts across Gaza.
She further accused the Israeli occupation of deliberately exacerbating conditions by restricting access to food and medical supplies while instilling fear among displaced families, particularly those sheltering along the coastal areas.
“The continued exposure of Palestinians to this level of violence contradicts the very concept of a ceasefire,” she said, adding that mass displacement remains a defining feature of life in Gaza, affecting the vast majority of the population.
The UN reiterated its call for urgent international action to address the humanitarian emergency and ensure the protection of civilians.
