DaysofPal — The head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Khalil al-Hayya, said the Movement is ready to move forward with the second phase of a ceasefire agreement, provided that Israel fulfills its commitments under the first phase.
In an interview aired Thursday evening on Al-Araby TV and monitored by Palestine Online, al-Hayya accused the Israeli occupation of undermining efforts to reach a lasting agreement.
He described Israeli occupation as a center of instability, noting that it prefers to negotiate “through fire” rather than diplomacy.
Al-Hayya stated that Hamas has adhered to all terms outlined in the agreement, while accusing Israeli occupation of failing to comply with its obligations.
He added that the Israeli occupation has refused to take any meaningful steps toward implementing the deal.
Reaffirming Hamas’s commitment to the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement, al-Hayya said the group remains ready to proceed with the next phase.
However, he stressed that progress depends on the Israeli occupation fully implementing all provisions of the initial stage.
It’s noteworthy that Israeli forces assassinated Al-Hayya’s son two days ago, which comes as an attempt to pressure him into making concessions during ongoing negotiations.
