DaysofPal- The Ministry of Interior and National Security in Gaza has condemned the “horrific massacres” carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against civilians and police personnel in the Gaza Strip, calling on mediators and guarantors of the ceasefire agreement to take urgent action to halt the attacks.
In a statement, the ministry said Israeli occupation forces had deliberately targeted police officers while they were performing their duties. It noted that the latest incidents occurred in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City, alongside the shelling of a police vehicle in Khan Younis as it was returning from resolving a family dispute.
The ministry reports that three civilians and six police officers were killed in the two attacks. This brings the total number of police members killed since the ceasefire took effect in October to 31.
The ministry identified the slain officers as Lieutenant Colonel Omar Saleh Muammar, Major Hossam Ahmed Sheikh al-Eid, Captain Imran Omar al-Lad’a, Lieutenant Ahmed Ibrahim al-Qassas, Sergeant Mohammed Nader al-Dahoudi, and Sergeant Abdul Rahman Abdul Rahim Barakat.
It stressed that the police force continues to carry out its civil and humanitarian duties toward the population, holding Israel fully responsible for targeting police facilities and personnel. The ministry said such actions constitute a violation of international law, which prohibits attacks on civilian institutions.
The statement also urged mediators and guarantors of the ceasefire agreement to exert pressure to stop the attacks and called on international organizations, particularly the International Committee of the Red Cross, to condemn the incidents and take a clear stance.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a genocidal campaign on the Gaza Strip that has resulted in more than 244,000 Palestinians killed or injured, the majority of them women and children, according to local authorities. More than 11,000 people remain missing, while hundreds of thousands have been displaced, with widespread destruction reported across the territory.
