DaysofPal- The UN children’s agency UNICEF on Saturday condemned the Israeli killing of two of its contracted water truck drivers in Gaza by Israeli fire, and called for an immediate investigation and full accountability.
In a statement, UNICEF said the two drivers were shot and killed by Israeli fire on Friday morning at a water filling point on Al-Mansoura Street in Gaza City, while conducting routine water delivery operations with no changes in movement or procedures.
The agency noted that the Al-Mansoura filling station is currently the only operational facility supplying water trucks from the Mekorot pipeline that serves Gaza City.
UNICEF said it has instructed its contractors to suspend activities at the site until security conditions in the area improve.
It urged the Israeli occupation to launch an immediate investigation into the incident and to ensure full accountability.
“Humanitarian workers, providers of essential services, and civilian infrastructure, including vital water facilities, must never be targeted,” the statement stressed.
According to local sources, the two drivers were brothers, Mahmoud and Eid Farid Abu Samra, who were killed after being hit by multiple bullets fired by Israeli forces near the water desalination plant in the Shuja’iyya area of Gaza City on Friday morning.
A third brother was wounded and is in moderate condition.
