Broad Palestinian Rejection of Gaza Disarmament Plan

DaysofPal- Palestinian factions and community leaders have voiced strong opposition to a proposed plan to disarm the Gaza Strip, describing it as biased and aligned with Israeli interests.

The proposal, attributed to former UN envoy Nikolay Mladenov, outlines a phased and multi-stage disarmament process under international supervision.

The plan is reportedly based on a “step-for-step” approach, linking progress in each phase to reciprocal actions by both sides within a broader political and security framework.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad firmly rejected the proposal, stating that “the weapons of the resistance belong to the Palestinian people” and are essential to achieving national goals, particularly ending occupation and establishing an independent state.

Senior figure Ismail al-Sandawi said the root of the crisis lies in the existence of occupation, arguing that resistance is a natural response.

He called for holding Israel accountable for its obligations and ending ongoing violations.

Similarly, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine stressed that resistance is a legitimate right arising from continued occupation.

Political bureau member Omar Murad warned that calls to surrender weapons without securing national rights would effectively enable Israel to continue its actions without deterrence.

Murad added that resistance weapons have never been a tool of chaos but rather a means of protecting the Palestinian people, emphasizing the need for national unity in the face of mounting pressure.

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine also cautioned against attempts to reshape political settlement plans in ways that serve Israeli demands.

Senior official Qais Abdel Karim said any arrangements regarding weapons must come through a unified Palestinian position, accusing Israel of seeking political gains through diplomatic pressure after failing to achieve its objectives militarily.

Palestinian tribal groups have also rejected the proposal, asserting that resistance arms represent a collective right that cannot be relinquished before ending the occupation.

Alaa al-Din al-Aklouk, a leader within a national tribal coalition, said priorities should focus on ending the war, lifting the blockade, and ensuring protection for Palestinians, not disarmament.

He emphasized that any political approach must begin with addressing worsening humanitarian conditions and preparing for reconstruction, insisting that disarmament cannot be considered before full sovereignty is achieved.

Sheikh Salem al-Sufi, head of a Bedouin tribal council, described resistance weapons as the spirit of the Palestinian people in the absence of international protection.

He stressed that abandoning them is not an option without guarantees of security and the establishment of an independent state.
The broad alignment among political factions and tribal leaders reflects widespread Palestinian rejection of any disarmament initiative that is not part of a comprehensive solution ending the occupation and securing national rights.

The opposition comes amid mounting political and humanitarian challenges in Gaza, where calls for unity and resistance continue to shape the public discourse.
