DaysofPal- Hamas Movement has strongly condemned the Israeli decision to extend the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque until mid-April, describing it as a “calculated step” aimed at emptying the site and consolidating control over it.
In a statement released on Friday, Hamas said the continued closure, described as unprecedented since Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem, goes beyond security considerations and reflects broader efforts to impose full sovereignty over the mosque and regulate access in line with Judaization projects.
The Movement argued that the measure is intended to create conditions for increased settler incursions and to facilitate plans linked to groups advocating for the so-called Temple Mount.
It added that the closure constitutes a direct violation of Muslim religious rights and an attack on Islamic holy sites.
Hamas warned of a potentially escalating situation in the coming period, particularly amid growing calls by Israeli groups to enter the compound during upcoming Jewish holidays and attempts to introduce new religious practices at the site.
The statement also called on Palestinians to mobilize and maintain a presence at access points leading to Al-Aqsa, while urging Arab and Muslim nations to take responsibility in responding to what it described as one of the most serious threats facing Al-Aqsa Mosque in recent history.
The closure of Al-Aqsa comes amid heightened tensions in Jerusalem and the wider region, with concerns mounting over access restrictions to one of Islam’s holiest sites and the potential for further unrest.
