DaysofPal- A United Nations rapporteur has criticized the global community, accusing it of effectively allowing Israeli occupation to subject Palestinians in the occupied territories to torture and describing daily life there as an unbroken cycle of physical and psychological suffering.
Francesca Albanese, the UN’s special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, stated that torture has in practice become part of official policy in areas under Israeli control.
Albanese argued that Israeli occupation has been given free rein to mistreat Palestinians because many governments and political leaders have failed to intervene, making the practice increasingly overt rather than hidden.
In her report, titled “Torture and Genocide,” Albanese described a system of systematic humiliation, abuse, and degradation carried out with high-level political approval.
The report emphasized that torture extends beyond prisons and interrogation centers.
It highlighted how forced displacement, blockades, restricted access to food and aid, ongoing military and settler violence, and constant surveillance have turned the occupied territories into an environment of collective punishment.
According to the report, these conditions amount to a form of collective torture with lasting physical and psychological harm.
Albanese urged UN member states to take action to prevent and hold accountable acts of torture and genocide, warning that continued inaction would undermine international law and strip it of its meaning.
Her remarks come amid reports from Palestinian media alleging that Israeli forces tortured a one-year-old child in Gaza in an attempt to extract information from his father.
Footage aired showed the child, identified as Karim, with visible injuries after being detained near the al-Maghazi refugee camp.
Palestinian health officials reported that since a ceasefire began in October 2025, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured in Israeli attacks.
The ceasefire had paused a two-year Israeli genocidal war that resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, widespread injuries, and the destruction of most civilian infrastructure in Gaza.
