DaysofPal – Israeli air strikes continued across Lebanon, hitting residential areas in several regions, including the capital, Beirut, and parts of the east and south of the country. The attacks killed at least 19 people and wounded others, according to Lebanese officials and local media reports.
The National News Agency reported that Israeli strikes early Wednesday killed seven people and injured five in the village of Tamnin al-Tahta in the Baalbek District. Earlier information suggested the death toll could be higher.
In southern Lebanon, three people were killed after an Israeli drone targeted a car in Saf al-Hawa. The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health also reported that seven people were killed and 11 were injured during overnight Israeli attacks on the town of Al-Shahabiya.
Strike hits residential building in Beirut
In central Beirut, an Israeli strike targeted a multistory residential building in the Aisha Bakkar neighborhood. The number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
Reporting from the site for Al Jazeera, journalist Zeina Khodr said many residents from the building were taken to hospitals, with reports indicating deaths and injuries. She noted that the building stands in a densely populated residential area rather than a location known for the presence of Hezbollah.
Residents described widespread shock following the strike. According to Khodr, many people believe there is no safe place left in the city and that the conflict has erased the idea of a clear front line.
Local sources said the attack destroyed one or two floors of the building rather than leveling it entirely. Fires broke out in at least two apartments, and the damage remained extensive. She said the strike occurred without prior warning.
The neighborhood had become a refuge for families displaced from Beirut’s southern suburbs after Israeli threats targeting those areas. Some families have been sleeping outdoors due to the lack of shelter.
Rising displacement and widening conflict
The Lebanese government estimates that roughly 780,000 people have been displaced during the current escalation, which forms part of the broader regional conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Hezbollah announced that it launched rocket attacks on Israeli military positions south of Khiam, stating that similar strikes had taken place repeatedly in recent days.
The exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified during the confrontation. Lebanese authorities report that at least 570 people have been killed in Lebanon since Israel resumed large-scale attacks last week. Israeli officials say two Israeli soldiers have been killed in Lebanon, while several people in Israel were injured by Hezbollah rocket fire.
The building struck in Tamnin al-Tahta was inhabited by a Syrian family, according to the National News Agency.
More strikes reported across Lebanon
Additional attacks were reported overnight across several regions. Israeli air strikes hit the village of Hanaway in southern Lebanon, killing three civilians, including a paramedic, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
Another attack killed one person and wounded eight in the Al-Housh area. Two more people were killed in a strike on the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah.
Several others were wounded in drone strikes that hit a café in Al-Housh and a house in Al-Shahabiya. Four more people were injured in an attack on the town of Tibnin.
International actors have urged de-escalation. Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the United Nations, warned that Israeli evacuation orders and ongoing attacks have displaced hundreds of thousands of people across southern Lebanon, parts of the Bekaa region, and sections of Beirut’s southern suburbs.
France also announced new humanitarian assistance. Jean-Noël Barrot, the French foreign minister, said France would deliver about 60 tonnes of aid to Lebanon this week, including hygiene kits, mattresses, lamps, and a mobile medical unit to support displaced civilians.
