DayofPal—The administration of Donald Trump has approved a potential $151.8 million weapons sale to Israel.
The moves invokes emergency authority to bypass the usual congressional review process as regional war continue to escalate following attacks on Iran.
According to the US State Department, the proposed deal includes 12,000 BLU-110A/B 1,000-pound general-purpose bomb bodies, along with engineering, logistics and technical support services.
Officials said the emergency determination allows the sale to proceed immediately under the Arms Export Control Act.
The main contractor for the deal is Repkon USA, based in Garland, Texas. Some of the bomb bodies are expected to be supplied from existing US military stockpiles.
The approval comes amid heightened regional war following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran launched on 28 February, which reportedly killed more than 1,000 people, including Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, schoolgirls and senior military officials.
The escalation has triggered retaliatory attacks from Tehran against US-linked targets across the region, including a drone strike in Kuwait that reportedly killed six US service members at a tactical operations center.
The weapons sale also comes as criticism within the United States Congress has grown over continued US arms transfers to Israel during the ongoing war in Gaza Strip.
In July, 27 Democratic senators supported a resolution seeking to block certain weapons sales to Israel due to concerns over civilian casualties and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, though the measure ultimately failed.
