DaysofPal – The General Petroleum Authority in the Gaza Strip has warned of severe and potentially catastrophic consequences resulting from the continued suspension of cooking gas supplies to the territory. The authority said the halt threatens the daily lives of more than two million residents, with serious humanitarian, economic, and social repercussions under already exceptional conditions.
In a statement, the authority explained that Gaza had already been facing a significant shortage of cooking gas. Supplies covered only about 30 percent of actual needs following the ceasefire, leaving a deficit estimated at 70 percent. The complete suspension of deliveries, it said, pushes the situation toward an unavoidable crisis.
Officials warned that the continuous suspension puts public health and food security at risk and could interfere with vital humanitarian services, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, when household demand for cooking fuel usually increases.
The authority stressed that preventing the entry of cooking gas constitutes a clear violation of the truce agreement and increases pressure on a population already enduring prolonged hardship. It stated that the current period should bring relief measures rather than additional restrictions.
The agency called on international actors, humanitarian organizations, and mediators to intervene urgently and exert pressure on Israel to reopen supply channels and ensure the immediate and regular flow of cooking gas into Gaza. Without swift action, the authority warned, living conditions could deteriorate beyond control.
The General Petroleum Authority urged responsible parties to take action before the situation reaches a breaking point, concluding that the crisis’ continuation signals serious consequences that might be uncontrollable.
