DaysofPal – The spokesperson for Hamas, Hazem Qassem, has condemned remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the formation of a new regional axis that would include Arab states. Qassem said that the proposal is a “blatant disregard” for Arab countries and a direct threat to their interests.
In a statement published Sunday, Qassem said Netanyahu’s talk of a new regional alliance reflects a dismissal of the significant role and standing of Arab states in the region. He argued that such a move represents a genuine threat to their strategic interests.
Qassem added that US support for these directions encourages the Israeli government to pursue policies that contradict Arab interests. He said these efforts rely on what he described as a state of weakness affecting the Arab system during the war on the Gaza Strip.
The Hamas spokesperson called on Arab countries to recognize the seriousness of these plans and their potential consequences for regional security and stability.
He warned that any alliances built at the expense of Palestinian rights “will not achieve stability, but will increase tension and conflict.” Qassem stressed that the Palestinian people and their resistance will continue to defend their rights regardless of shifting axes or alliances.
Netanyahu recently announced that his government is working to shape a new regional axis in the Middle East and its surroundings. According to his statement, the proposed bloc would include India, Arab and African countries, along with Greece and Cyprus. He said the initiative is intended to confront the “forming Sunni axis” and a “collapsing Shiite axis.”
