DaysofPal- UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said that ongoing Israeli measures aimed at imposing sovereignty over the occupied West Bank constitute a flagrant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
According to a statement relayed by UN News, the Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, said on Monday that Guterres expressed deep concern over a decision by the Israeli security cabinet to authorize a series of administrative and executive measures in Areas A and B of the West Bank.
Guterres warned that the current Israeli trajectory on the ground is undermining prospects for a two-state solution.
He stressed that these actions, including the continued Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory, are illegal under international law, in line with findings of the International Court of Justice, and pose a direct threat to regional stability.
The UN chief called on the Israeli occupation to immediately reverse these measures and urged all parties to preserve the only viable path to lasting peace, one based on international law, UN Security Council resolutions, and the two-state framework.
Israeli forces have continued raids, violations, and settlement expansion across the West Bank as part of annexation-driven policies widely seen as aimed at altering the territory’s legal status. On Sunday, the Israeli occupation approved new measures designed to fundamentally change the legal framework of the West Bank in an effort to consolidate control, moves Palestinians say are intended to eliminate any remaining prospects for the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
