Three Months After Ceasefire, Gaza Struggles with War, Hunger, and Blocked Aid

DaysofPal- An Israeli human rights organization has warned that the genocide in the Gaza Strip has not ended, despite the passage of three months since a ceasefire agreement came into force. The group said Israeli forces have continued to expand their control inside Gaza, in clear violation of the terms of the agreement.

In a newly released position paper, the organization stated that killings, bombardment, and the expansion of Israeli control across large parts of Gaza have persisted, alongside widespread destruction of infrastructure and systematic obstruction of humanitarian work.

These conditions have deepened displacement, hunger, and malnutrition, particularly among children and women.

The report stressed that, despite a limited improvement in food availability, living conditions in Gaza remain extremely precarious. It warned that the international community continues to overlook the reality of mass destruction and ongoing violence occurring under the label of a ceasefire.

According to the organization’s estimates, Israeli forces have continued aerial and artillery attacks and live fire across the Strip since the agreement took effect, resulting in the killing of at least 422 Palestinians and the wounding of 1,189 others.

Several fatal incidents were documented in early January alone. Five Palestinians were killed in Khan Younis over a two-day period, including a 15-year-old boy shot while heading out to fish, reportedly by fire from an Israeli naval vessel. Another man was killed in an area under Israeli control beyond the so-called “yellow line,” while a young girl was killed when a drone strike hit a tent sheltering a displaced family.

The assessment also found that Israeli forces have expanded their control far beyond what was agreed upon, now dominating at least 56 percent of Gaza’s total area.

The “yellow line,” intended to mark withdrawal zones, remains poorly defined in several locations, while civilians continue to be targeted on both sides of it. Satellite imagery reviewed by the organization shows that hundreds of buildings east of the line have been razed, alongside extensive damage to critical infrastructure.

Humanitarian Crisis and Blocked Aid

The dangers facing civilians are compounded by the widespread presence of unexploded ordnance. United Nations estimates indicate that approximately 7,500 tons of unexploded munitions are scattered throughout Gaza, causing daily injuries among civilians attempting to meet basic needs. Efforts to clear these hazards remain obstructed by ongoing restrictions on the entry of specialized equipment.

Winter storms, unexploded weapons, collapsing buildings, and the near-total destruction of infrastructure have transformed daily life in Gaza into a continuous struggle for survival, particularly for children.

Around 1.5 million people are still living in temporary tents or damaged buildings that offer little protection. In December alone, 17 people were killed when weakened structures collapsed, while three children have died from hypothermia since the onset of winter, including a newborn less than two weeks old.

At the beginning of January 2026, Israeli authorities barred 37 international humanitarian organizations from entering Gaza. These organizations had been providing essential medical care, food assistance, and shelter supplies.

According to a coalition of 53 aid groups, the organizations prevented from operating had been delivering more than half of all food assistance, supporting or managing 60 percent of temporary hospitals, and providing most care for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

Despite what the report described as a relative improvement in food availability, prolonged malnutrition, limited dietary diversity, and rising food prices continue to threaten Gaza with an imminent humanitarian catastrophe. Food security assessments project that more than 100,000 infants and young children, along with 37,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women, will require urgent treatment for acute malnutrition by mid-April 2026.

The report concludes that the ceasefire has failed to halt the core dynamics of violence, destruction, and deprivation in Gaza, leaving civilians trapped in conditions that continue to erode their safety, health, and dignity.
