DasysofPal– The Hamas Movement denounced on Wednesday a decision by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to terminate the contracts of employees who left the Gaza Strip and were placed on exceptional leave after becoming unable to return.
In a statement received by Safa News Agency, the Islamic Resistance Movement described the measure as unfair and a violation of employees’ basic rights, arguing that those affected are stranded outside Gaza because of the ongoing war and the continued closure of the Rafah crossing.
Hamas said the staff members are being penalized for circumstances beyond their control, pointing to Israeli travel restrictions and the blockade that have prevented their return to the territory.
The movement urged UNRWA to rescind the decision and fulfill its responsibilities toward both Palestinian refugees and its workforce, calling on the agency to prioritize relief efforts in Gaza amid the worsening humanitarian crisis.
Hamas also appealed for coordinated international pressure on the Israeli occupation to ease restrictions on humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip, warning that such measures are further aggravating already dire conditions for the civilian population.
