DaysofPal-Gaza Municipality stated that the situation in the city is catastrophic amid relentless Israeli bombardment and destruction, where people are suffering death and forced displacement.

Speaking to Palestine Online, municipal spokesperson Eng. Assem Al-Nabeeh said the ongoing Israeli assault across all parts of Gaza has severely undermined basic services such as water supply, sewage, and waste collection.

“The circumstances are extremely difficult and tragic. The continuous bombardment and targeting everywhere in the city pose tremendous risks to our operations,” he said.

Al-Nabeeh highlighted that infrastructure damage is extensive, particularly in water and sanitation networks, while emergency efforts are hampered by shortages of spare parts, equipment, and heavy machinery.

He revealed that more than 260,000 tons of solid waste have accumulated across the city, warning of an environmental and health disaster with the potential spread of epidemics and diseases.

Water supply remains the municipality’s top priority, but shortages persist.

Despite attempts to utilize local wells, repair damaged lines, and maintain limited pumping, residents are still unable to access sufficient quantities.

“Field teams are exhausted. They suffer from displacement, hunger, and constant danger, just like the rest of society. Many have been working without salaries or leave since the beginning of the war nearly two years ago,” Al-Nabeeh added.

On international support, he noted that the municipality maintains regular coordination with humanitarian institutions and has submitted urgent needs lists for emergency operations but said interventions remain extremely limited.

He urged stronger, practical engagement from international agencies to prevent further deterioration.
Despite the overwhelming crisis, Gaza Municipality affirmed its commitment to serving citizens.

“We will continue to provide basic services even under these harsh conditions, because we have no other choice. We are here for the people who have been suffering for more than 23 months due to this aggression,” Al-Nabeeh stressed.

According to the Government Media Office in Gaza, more than 3,542 residents have been killed since the start of the Israeli ground assault on the city in August, with 44% of the victims from the central and southern governorates that Israeli forces had designated as safe zones.

The office added that around one million people continue to endure in Gaza City and the north, resisting forced displacement southward, while some 190,000 have been uprooted under permanent expulsion plans.

Gaza and its northern governorates are home to over 1.3 million people, including 398,000 from North Gaza, most of whom have been forcibly displaced westward, and more than 914,000 from Gaza City, nearly 350,000 of whom were driven from the city’s eastern neighborhoods toward its center and west.
