DaysofPal- Dr. Nada Abu Alrub, an Australian volunteer doctor at Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital, has provided a stark account of the dire conditions faced by medical staff amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes.
She described the situation as a “nightmare,” highlighting critical shortages of essential medical supplies and equipment.
Operating under constant threat, Dr. Alrub reported that the hospital is functioning with minimal resources, including a lack of basic surgical tools and hygiene supplies.
Despite these challenges, medical teams continue to treat patients on the floor due to the overwhelming number of casualties.
The hospital has been struck multiple times, with at least 15 individuals killed outside its premises in recent days.
In a video shared by the Australian Doctors in Gaza organization, Dr. Alrub and her colleague, Dr. Saya Aziz emphasized the resilience of the medical staff, stating, “Healthcare is not collapsing; it’s being destroyed.”
They called for immediate international support to address the escalating humanitarian crisis.
The ongoing Israeli genocidal war has severely impacted Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure, with hospitals operating beyond capacity and facing critical shortages of fuel, electricity, and medical supplies.
Medical personnel continue to perform life-saving procedures under extreme conditions, often without adequate anesthesia or sterilization, as they strive to save lives amidst the devastation.
Al Jazeera’s coverage of the situation underscores the determination of doctors at al-Shifa Hospital, who refuse to abandon their patients despite the escalating dangers.
The hospital’s director, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, who has endured personal losses and torture by Israeli forces, leads by example in this challenging environment.
The international community continues to call for immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, urging the protection of medical facilities and personnel and the provision of essential aid to those in need.
