DaysofPal – Relentless Israeli air strikes and artillery bombardment pounded Gaza City on Tuesday, the same day a United Nations inquiry ruled that Israel is committing genocide in the besieged Palestinian territory.
Thick columns of black smoke rose above the southern Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, while the roar of fighter jets, helicopters, quadcopters, and explosive-laden vehicles shook the city. The Israeli military said it had struck 150 sites in Gaza City in just 24 hours, part of what it called a new phase of Operation Gideon. Two army divisions have been deployed in the ongoing push to occupy the city.
“Our goal is to destroy and defeat Hamas’s infrastructure,” the Israeli army said in a statement. Defense Minister Israel Katz hailed the offensive, posting on social media, “Gaza [City] is burning.”
As the assault intensified, large parts of Gaza City were cut off from telecommunications and internet services, leaving civilians unable to reach loved ones or access critical information. Families fled south in growing numbers, crowding Rashid Street with trucks and carts carrying whatever belongings they could salvage. Many displaced families said they were left sleeping in the open without tents, with no space available in already overwhelmed shelters in central and southern Gaza.
The Israeli army claimed to have opened a temporary corridor via Salah al-Din Street for civilians to move south, though witnesses described harrowing conditions along the route.
The World Health Organization’s fuel deliveries to hospitals were purposefully blocked by Israel, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, worsening the collapse of medical services and endangering the lives of patients.
Hospitals across the Strip reported dozens of new casualties. Since dawn Wednesday, 37 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, including 24 in Gaza City, medical officials said.
In Khan Yunis, the al-Nasser Medical Complex confirmed that five Palestinians were killed when Israeli shelling hit a tent sheltering displaced families in al-Mawasi. In central Gaza, al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital reported treating Palestinians wounded by Israeli fire east of Deir al-Balah.
The intensifying assault has left thousands displaced and exposed, with aid groups warning that conditions are spiraling toward famine and total humanitarian collapse.
