DaysofPal- The health unions in the Gaza Strip issued a joint press statement welcoming the Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy consisting of 70 ships loaded with medicines, medical supplies, and essential treatment equipment, sailing towards the besieged Strip to break the Gaza blockade and genocide.
The health unions’ statement affirmed that the convoy carries a message of hope, dignity, and resilience for the Palestinian people amid the ongoing Israeli war and acts of genocide.
It described the initiative as a victory for the global human conscience and a clear rejection of the Israeli policies that deprive Palestinians of their basic rights to food, medicine, health, and life.
According to the unions, this humanitarian effort provides crucial support to Gaza’s medical teams, who continue to work around the clock despite acute shortages of basic resources and equipment and under immense pressure caused by the destruction of the healthcare infrastructure, and it creates conditions that threaten the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients and the wounded.
The statement stressed that the arrival of the fleet will help alleviate the medical catastrophe facing the Gaza Strip and will enable health professionals to perform their humanitarian and professional duties more effectively despite the war and blockade.
It further emphasized that Gaza will not stand alone, as free people around the world stand with it in defense of the rights to life, dignity, and health.
The unions called on the international community, human rights organizations, and global medical institutions to ensure the immediate and unhindered arrival of the convoy, while expanding urgent support for Gaza’s health sector to protect civilians from the threat of illness and slow death and to strengthen the resilience of a medical system that is working tirelessly to save lives.
The health unions in Gaza reiterated their unwavering commitment to continue fulfilling their medical and professional mission with the highest levels of responsibility and ethics, defending the lives of their people and their legitimate right to treatment and medicine, until the blockade is lifted and Israel’s crimes are brought to an end.
