DaysofPal- “The Voice of Hind Rajab” has captured the Silver Lion (Grand Jury Prize) at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, a powerful docudrama, marking a significant recognition for its heart-wrenching portrayal of the human cost of the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

Directed by French-Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, the film delves into the tragic story of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl killed by Israeli forces. It has sparked widespread emotional reactions and critical acclaim.

The film recounts the true and harrowing events of Hind’s last hours as she and her family attempted to evacuate Gaza City amidst Israeli military actions.

Utilizing real audio from Hind’s desperate call to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, the film captures her pleas for help while trapped in a car with the bodies of her family members, all victims of Israeli fire.
Tragically, Hind, along with two ambulance workers who tried to reach her, was killed before rescue efforts could succeed.

Premiering on September 3, 2025, in the main competition at Venice, the film received a record-breaking 23-minute standing ovation, underscoring its profound impact on audiences.

Critics have lauded the film for its raw authenticity and emotional depth, earning it a rare 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 84/100.

The film is also scheduled to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival later this month.

In her acceptance speech, Ben Hania emphasized that Hind’s story transcends the individual tragedy to reflect the broader suffering of Palestinians.

“Cinema cannot bring Hind back, nor can it erase the atrocity committed against her. But cinema can preserve her voice, make it resonate across borders. Her voice will continue to echo until accountability is real, until justice is served,” she declared.

Produced by Mime Films and Tanit Films with executive producers including Brad Pitt and Joaquin Phoenix, the film’s production brings together a notable cast, including Saja Kilani and Clara Khoury.

The film’s unique blend of documentary style and narrative storytelling sets it apart, offering an unflinching look at the realities faced by those in conflict zones.

While supporters praise the film for shedding light on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, some critics argue about its portrayal of the conflict, highlighting the film’s role in sparking debates around accountability and justice.
