DaysofPal-The Gaza aid flotilla from Tunisia, called the Maghreb Sumud Flotilla, has experienced another delay and is now set to depart from Sidi Bou Said Port in Tunis on Wednesday, September 10, after being postponed from the original Sunday departure date.
Organizers cited “technical and logistical reasons beyond management’s control” for the latest delay. This comes after earlier postponements caused by bad weather.
The Tunisian flotilla aims to join the broader Global Sumud Flotilla, which already includes boats that left from Spain (Barcelona) and Italy (Genoa).
Nearly 20 ships departed from Barcelona last month, and a convoy from Genoa followed earlier this week.
The mission brings together several international groups, such as the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the Global Gaza Movement, the Sumud Convoy, and Malaysia’s Nusantara Solidarity group, all with the goal of breaking Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid.
High-profile participants include Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and former Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau, along with support from celebrities such as Susan Sarandon and Liam Cunningham.
The organizers describe the mission as peaceful, aiming to deliver aid and highlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, provide food and medicine for people who have been under Israeli genocide for over 700 days so far.
However, Israeli officials claim they will prevent the flotilla from reaching Gaza, detain all participants in it.
Flotilla organizers call for providing food and medicine to the starving people in Gaza who are suffering from Israeli genocide and suffocating siege on the people in the Gaza Strip, which Israeli occupation threatens to prevent by force.
