DaysofPal- The Zeitoun neighborhood in eastern Gaza City has witnessed a severe military escalation by Israeli occupation forces following armed clashes between Palestinian resistance.
Israeli media stated that clashes with the Israeli forces resulted in killing one Israeli soldier and injuring 11 others, while four soldiers remain missing.
Since the clashes, the Israeli occupation forces have intensified airstrikes and artillery shelling on the Zeitoun neighborhood in an effort to eliminate Palestinian fighters on the ground, alongside widespread destruction of residential buildings.
Local residents reported that the bombardment has continued for days, turning Zeitoun into a closed battlefield that is difficult to access or assess accurately.
The situation for civilians in Gaza has become increasingly desperate.
Families are trapped in their homes amid relentless shelling, with many forced to take refuge in damaged shelters or overcrowded temporary facilities.
Basic necessities such as food, water, and medical supplies are so scarce, and hospitals are overwhelmed by casualties from the ongoing attacks.
The Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaza has been under relentless Israeli bombardment of residential areas for more than three weeks, resulting in widespread destruction and the deaths of dozens of civilians, with hundreds more injured, including women and children.
Palestinian medical sources reported that entire families have been wiped out in Israeli strikes on their homes, forcing thousands of residents to seek refuge in temporary shelters such as schools and clinics.
However, Israeli attacks have followed them even there. The destruction of electricity and water networks has worsened the humanitarian crisis, leaving residents in total darkness and without access to clean water, as part of Israel’s efforts to forcibly displace the population and devastate the city.
The neighborhood’s field hospital is struggling to accommodate the massive influx of wounded amid severe shortages of medicines and medical supplies. The streets bear tragic scenes of families trapped beneath the rubble of their homes.
Medical and media sources indicate that many victims, including children and the elderly, remain buried under the debris, with rescue efforts hampered by the ongoing shelling.
Many children and elderly are particularly vulnerable, with limited access to essential care, while widespread fear and trauma grip the population.
The escalation in Zeitoun is part of a broader campaign targeting eastern Gaza neighborhoods, including Shujaiya and Sabra, where heavy strikes have prompted mass civilian displacement amid fears of an imminent ground invasion.
According to medical sources, the number of casualties has sharply risen in recent days amid worsening humanitarian conditions and severe shortages of medical and food supplies.
Observers note that the Israeli occupation forces aim through these operations to occupy Gaza City and forcibly displace its people, while the United Nations has warned that continued Israeli military operations will lead to a “horrific humanitarian disaster” affecting 1 million civilians trapped inside the city.
