DaysofPal – Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza issued an urgent appeal on Friday for the immediate provision of a power generator to save the lives of thousands of patients and wounded civilians as Israel’s assault on the Strip continues.
The hospital, the main medical facility serving hundreds of thousands of residents in central Gaza, warned that it is facing a catastrophic situation due to a severe shortage of electricity.
Its primary generators have repeatedly broken down under relentless strain, leaving only two in operation: one medium-capacity and one small. Neither is sufficient to keep critical departments functioning, including operating theaters, intensive care units, and neonatal incubators.
Hospital officials stated that they are prepared to purchase any available generator with a capacity of at least 400 kVA to ensure continuous electricity and uninterrupted lifesaving treatment. The appeal was directed not only to Palestinians but also to international and humanitarian organizations, civil society groups, and any individual able to provide the desperately needed equipment.
“Saving innocent lives and ensuring access to healthcare is a humanitarian and moral obligation,” the hospital said in its statement.
The Gaza Ministry of Health has repeatedly warned of crippling shortages of generators and spare parts, which Israel has barred from entering the Strip under its strict closure of crossings.
Hospitals are also suffering from dwindling stocks of medicines, supplies, and vital medical equipment, leaving doctors unable to properly treat the wounded and sick.
Since the beginning of the war, Israeli forces have systematically targeted Gaza’s health system, striking hospitals, ambulances, and medical personnel, according to government and human rights reports. The United Nations has repeatedly cautioned that the deliberate dismantling of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure threatens the lives of countless patients and risks the total collapse of the sector.
