DaysofPal—The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has sounded a stark alarm over the catastrophic toll of Israel’s war on Gaza, reporting that approximately 28 children are being killed every day amid relentless bombardment and a crippling blockade on humanitarian aid.
“Death by bombardments. Death by malnutrition and starvation. Death by lack of aid and vital services,” UNICEF said in a post on X on Tuesday.
The agency described the daily toll as the equivalent of “a classroom” of children being killed, stressing that Gaza’s youngest face urgent needs for food, clean water, medicine, and safety.
“More than anything, they need a ceasefire, NOW,” the UN agency added.
Since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, at least 60,933 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 18,000 children—roughly one child every hour—while 150,027 others have been wounded, according to local health authorities.
The crisis has been deepened by Israel’s ongoing restrictions on humanitarian aid. In the last 24 hours alone, at least eight Palestinians, including a child, have died from starvation, bringing the total hunger-related death toll to 188, among them 94 children. Many of these deaths occurred as desperate families risked their lives seeking food under fire.
UN agencies warn that Gaza is enduring a man-made famine as Israel continues to block life-saving supplies and target areas where aid seekers gather. Humanitarian groups are calling for immediate international intervention to end the siege and secure a lasting ceasefire to prevent further mass child deaths.
