DaysofPal—The Global Protection Group has confirmed in a detailed human rights report that the elderly and people with disabilities in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions, stressing that “there is no safe place in Gaza” for these vulnerable groups amid the ongoing Israeli aggression.
The Global Protection Group is an international network that includes UN agencies concerned with human rights, in addition to international and civil society organizations.
The report stated that the protective environment for these individuals has been destroyed as a result of over 20 months of violent hostilities, rendering Gaza uninhabitable, especially for those with special needs and the elderly.
According to documented data, the number of people injured since the beginning of the war has reached 134,105, including more than 40,500 children, who sustained direct injuries due to bombings and military operations.
The report indicated that nearly 25% of new injuries resulted in permanent disabilities, requiring long-term and continuous rehabilitation, at a time when Gaza’s healthcare system is collapsing.
Additionally, the group recorded that over 35,000 people have suffered significant hearing loss due to the intensity of explosions. Meanwhile, ten children lose one or both legs every day due to ongoing Israeli airstrikes, exacerbating the suffering of an entire generation and putting their future at grave risk.
The report concluded by asserting that the repeated targeting of civilians, especially the most vulnerable, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, amounts to war crimes and demands urgent international accountability.
