DaysofPal- On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has issued a statement calling for a global labor movement in solidarity with Palestinian workers, urging action to reject what it describes as escalating Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
The movement emphasized that Palestinian workers, both in the homeland and the diaspora, “form an integral part of the national fabric” but continue to suffer under “abuse, persecution, siege, and racism.” Hamas noted this suffering is occurring amid “the absence of serious international action to stop the crimes of the occupation.”
Praising the resilience and sacrifices of Palestinian workers, Hamas paid tribute to what it called “the blood of the workers’ martyrs,” describing it as “a spark and fuel for the uprisings against the occupation.” The statement positioned Palestinian workers at the heart of the Palestinian struggle and national resistance.
Calling for international solidarity, the movement described the plight of Palestinian workers as “part of a tragedy that has been going on for more than seven decades.” Hamas asserted that the ongoing Israeli violations constitute “systematic crimes aimed at disrupting the fundamentals of human life,” and demanded urgent intervention from the United Nations to halt these practices.
The statement also strongly condemned continued efforts to undermine the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), labeling them as “an attempt to erase the historical crime against the Palestinian people.” Hamas urged countries to continue supporting UNRWA to ensure the continuation of its vital humanitarian role.
In a broader appeal, the movement called on human rights and humanitarian organizations to “assume their responsibilities in exposing Israeli crimes against Palestinian workers” and to advocate for lifting the siege on Gaza and ending restrictions in the occupied West Bank.
Hamas expressed appreciation for the positions taken by international trade unions in support of the Palestinian cause and encouraged further escalation of the global trade union movement “against the occupation.” The statement urged labor movements and trade union federations worldwide to use International Workers’ Day as “a militant platform to support the Palestinian people by organizing solidarity events and demanding an end to the Israeli aggression.”
In a direct call to action, Hamas stressed the importance of “escalating labor boycotts of Israeli and international shipping companies involved in supporting the occupation and supplying it with weapons used against civilians.”
On March 2, Israel blocked the entry of all humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stopping the crossing of aid from the Kerem Shalom, Erez, and Zikim crossings, which led to the complete cessation of the entry of relief supplies and fuel.
On March 18, Israel reneged on the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in effect since January 19 and resumed its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, despite Hamas’ commitment to all of its terms.
