DaysofPal- The United Nations has revealed that approximately 500,000 Palestinians have been displaced from their homes in the Gaza Strip since March 18, 2025, following the Israeli occupation’s resumption of genocide against the civilians.
Stephanie Tremblay, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated on Thursday that humanitarian partners estimate this staggering number reflects both first-time displacements and repeated forced relocations.
“The vast majority of Gaza’s population—more than two million people—had already been displaced before the recent escalation,” Tremblay noted, underscoring the scale of the ongoing crisis.
Buffer Zones and Forced Expulsions
In a further blow to civilians, the Israeli occupation forces announced it had designated roughly 30% of the Gaza Strip as a “security cordon”—a buffer zone where Palestinian residents are prohibited from living.
This move has effectively rendered large swathes of land uninhabitable, exacerbating the displacement crisis and leaving thousands without shelter or access to basic necessities.
Mounting Civilian Casualties
The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported grim figures amid the escalating violence. Since the resumption of military operations on March 18, at least 1,652 Palestinians have been killed, with another 4,391 injured. The overall death toll from Israeli aggression on Gaza since October 7, 2023, now stands at a devastating 51,025 martyrs, with over 116,432 injuries recorded.
Humanitarian organizations warn that these numbers represent not only lives lost, but also shattered communities and families enduring unimaginable suffering.
Hospitals in Gaza remain overwhelmed, struggling to cope with dwindling supplies and frequent power outages as they treat waves of casualties.
A Deepening Humanitarian Catastrophe
The renewed conflict has compounded an already dire situation in Gaza, where years of blockade and successive military campaigns have left infrastructure decimated and essential services on the brink of collapse. With hundreds of thousands newly displaced, many are forced to seek refuge in overcrowded shelters or open areas, lacking adequate food, water, and medical care.
International calls for restraint and humanitarian access have so far gone unheeded, as Israeli forces continue their offensive. The establishment of buffer zones has drawn condemnation from human rights groups, who argue that such measures disproportionately target civilians and violate international law.
