DaysofPal- A former Israeli female captive released in a recent exchange deal has criticized the Israeli government for hesitating to meet the demands of her release, saying it felt as though their lives were not valued enough.
In remarks published by Yedioth Ahronoth on Tuesday, the ex-captive, identified as Berger, expressed frustration over the repeated failures of negotiations, which made captivity even more difficult.
“It was hard to hear discussions about the price of the deal as if our lives weren’t worth enough,” she stated.
Berger noted that Israeli captives had access to news during their captivity, allowing them to follow developments in Israel, including the events of October 7.
She also described celebrating Hanukkah and taking part in a sea tour while in captivity. Still, she emphasized the emotional toll of missing family milestones, such as her brother’s coming-of-age celebration.
She concluded by calling for continued efforts to bring back all captives, alive or dead, and stressed the need for investigations into the fate of those who did not survive.
“We must not stop until everyone is returned,” she said.
