DaysofPal- Hamas has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the ceasefire agreement with Israel, as signed, including the scheduled exchange of prisoners. Israeli sources have expressed optimism about the continuation of the deal and the planned release of prisoners this Saturday.
Hamas stated that it held discussions with mediators regarding the implementation of the agreement and the exchange of prisoners, particularly after violations by Israel.
The movement mentioned that its delegation held a meeting in Cairo with Egyptian Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad and conducted phone talks with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Its delegation also held meetings and engaged in talks with officials responsible for negotiations in Egypt and Qatar, as well as technical teams from the mediators.
These discussions focused on implementing the agreement’s provisions, especially those related to securing shelter for residents, introducing prefabricated houses, tents, heavy machinery, medical supplies, fuel, and ensuring the continued flow of urgent humanitarian aid.
Hamas described the talks as positive, and mediators in Egypt and Qatar confirmed their commitment to addressing obstacles and closing any gaps in the agreement.
Earlier, sources informed Al Jazeera that communications aimed at moving forward with the ceasefire agreement in Gaza had been successful. Mediators confirmed that all parties were committed to implementing the terms of the agreement, including the humanitarian protocol.
The sources also revealed that the first shipments of mobile homes and heavy machinery would enter Gaza today, marking the first such delivery since the ceasefire deal began to take effect.
Meanwhile, Israeli sources disclosed that the equipment would be allowed to enter Gaza through one of Israel’s crossings after approval. Israel is reportedly optimistic about the deal’s continuation and the planned prisoner release on Saturday.
Israeli Channel 12 quoted official Israeli sources saying they are committed to the agreement after receiving signals indicating Hamas’s adherence to the deal.
Last Monday, the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, announced that the release of Israeli prisoners would be delayed until Israel fully complies with the humanitarian protocol outlined in the agreement. Former U.S. President Donald Trump had warned Hamas of “hell” if it did not release the Israeli prisoners by Saturday noon.
On January 19, a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel went into effect in Gaza, including a prisoner exchange. The deal consists of three phases, each lasting 42 days, with the first phase focused on prisoner exchanges and humanitarian aid deliveries, followed by negotiations for the second and third phases, facilitated by Egypt and Qatar with U.S. support.
