DaysofPal- In response to US President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and other countries, residents of Gaza have voiced their anger and outright rejection of the proposal.
The announcement has sparked widespread indignation among citizens who have already endured decades of conflict, siege, and repeated attempts by Israel to force them off their land.
Citizens of Gaza, many of whom lost their homes and family members during Israel’s relentless 16-month genocidal war, remain resolute in their determination to stay on their ancestral land. Despite the immense hardships they face daily, including economic deprivation, constant threats of violence, and a suffocating blockade, Gazans are united in rejecting any attempt to uproot them.
In interviews conducted with the “Palestine” newspaper, several residents expressed their unwavering commitment to remaining in Gaza, dismissing Trump’s plan as yet another effort to erase their identity and historical rights.
Khaled Balata, whose home was destroyed by Israeli forces in Jabalia camp, now lives with his family of six in a makeshift tent at a shelter. Speaking with defiance, he declared, “We are not commodities to be transported from one place to another. Gaza is our land, where we were born and lived, and we are ready to die here as well.” He condemned Trump’s plan as part of a broader strategy to obliterate Palestinian identity, stating, “We have been living under siege for years, and we face daily bombing and destruction, but that does not mean that we will leave our homes.”
Sahar Jamal, a mother displaced to Yarmouk Stadium—a converted shelter for those rendered homeless by the war—also rejected the notion of leaving her homeland. “How does the American president expect us to abandon our homes and relocate elsewhere despite the crimes committed against us?” she questioned. “Do they think we will forget our history and rights once we leave? As a Palestinian woman, I completely reject this plan. We live in difficult circumstances, but that does not mean we will give up. My children know that this land is their homeland, and we will not allow anyone to steal it from us.”
Jamal emphasized the dire conditions faced by refugees in shelters but affirmed that such struggles would not lead to surrender. Addressing Trump directly, she stated, “You have your own country and you are free to manage its policies, but you do not have the right to decide whether we should stay in our country or displace us. We are the owners of this land and we will not give it up.”
Ali Al-Zain, another resident who lost his father and sons in an Israeli airstrike targeting his home in Al-Faluja, echoed similar sentiments. Sheltering with survivors in a center for displaced persons, Al-Zain vowed resistance against both American and Israeli schemes. “We have lived for many years under siege and bombing, but this did not kill our will,” he asserted. “Trump’s plan is an attempt to end the Palestinian issue in an unfair way, and we are not ready to give up our dream of freedom and return to our occupied lands.”
Al-Zain further stressed, “Gaza is part of Palestine, and we will not allow anyone to erase our identity. The youth here are ready to fight for their rights, and we will not leave our land no matter the challenges.”
The collective resolve of Gazans underscores their steadfastness in defending their homeland, even amidst unimaginable suffering. For these individuals, displacement is not merely an affront to their dignity—it represents a direct threat to their existence as a people. Their message to the world is clear: Gaza may be besieged, but its people will never yield.
