DayofPal– The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that rebuilding Gaza’s shattered health system will require at least $10 billion over the next five to seven years.
This call for support comes as a ceasefire agreement has brought a temporary halt to 15 months of relentless assaults in the region.
In a statement released on Thursday, the WHO urged its member states, international donors, and the private sector to join forces to address both the immediate health crises and the long-term reconstruction of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure.
“The scale of destruction is staggering, and the global community must act decisively,” said Rik Peeperkorn, WHO’s representative in the occupied Palestinian territories.
He emphasized that the United Nations cannot shoulder this monumental task alone.
While WHO stands ready to deliver aid, Peeperkorn noted that significant security challenges and political barriers are hindering the flow of assistance into Gaza. Overcoming these obstacles, he said, is vital to ensure both urgent medical care and the foundation for a resilient health system in the future.
The WHO stressed the need for flexible, sustained funding to drive rapid and effective responses to the ongoing crisis. As the region begins to heal, global solidarity will be essential in rebuilding a system that can serve the people of Gaza with dignity and care.
During the Genocide, Israel has killed over 1068 health workers, arrested 33, and tortured to death three in prison, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office.
It also revealed that Israeli attacks rendered 34 hospitals out of service, in addition to other 80 health centers. About 162 health institutions and 136 ambulances were targeted.
