DaysofPal- The Nicaraguan government declared Friday that it is cutting off diplomatic ties with Israel, further contributing to Israel’s increasing isolation internationally due to its devastating actions in the Gaza Strip.
Rosario Murillo, Nicaraguan Vice President, revealed the decision to state media, following the parliament’s approval of a resolution urging action in light of the one-year anniversary of the Gaza war on October 7.
Murillo, the wife of President Daniel Ortega, stated that her husband directed the government to “sever diplomatic relations with the fascist and genocidal government of Israel.”
This announcement is primarily symbolic, as Israel does not currently have a resident ambassador in Nicaragua’s capital, Managua.
The Nicaraguan government denounced Israel’s actions in Gaza, stating that the conflict now “extends against Lebanon and gravely threatens Syria, Yemen, and Iran.”
Nicaragua’s decision comes amid increasing diplomatic scrutiny of Israel due to its violent assaults in Gaza and other regions of the Middle East, including Lebanon.
