DaysofPal- Thousands of women are facing life-threatening health risks in the Gaza Strip, where more than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocide, said UN Women.
The UN body said in a report on Sunday that more than 85 percent of health facilities have been damaged, disrupting medical services and making it challenging for women to access essential health care.
The report also underscored the urgent needs for women, such as cancer treatment, maternal health services, and psychological support.
The UN body urged for immediate assistance to address the special health needs of women and girls in Gaza.
A recent UN Women update estimates that 177,000 women in Gaza face “life-threatening health risks, including from non-communicable diseases and hunger and poor nutrition during pregnancy”.
The update says that women and girls are at heightened risk of exposure to certain diseases due to their role in caring for sick family members in severely overcrowded shelters in the absence of adequate water and sanitation. It also reports that an estimated 155,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women “confront obstacles to antenatal and postnatal care”.
